Cub Bears

Our infant classroom is for infants ages 6 weeks to 1 year old.

In the Cubs classroom, caregivers let the infants take the lead. Primary caregivers take the time to learn about each baby and respond appropriately to their cues for hunger, sleep, diapering, and interaction. Each child's needs are carefully monitored and recorded based on their individual habits and schedules. The ratio in this class is 1 teacher to 4 infants.

Daily Schedule

While the infants follow their own schedule, the classroom does follow a tentatively guided day. Infants are checked and changed every two hours and typically feed on a similar schedule (around three hours for feeding). Children that eat solids or blended solids can have the centered offered meals served at 8:45 am for breakfast, 11:45 am for lunch, and 3:00 for snack.

Our Curriculum

Teachers encourage young children to explore what they can do, and help children to see the cause and effect of their discoveries. Teachers facilitate activities that engage children through direct experiences with people, objects, and other sensory-motor opportunities.

Below is an example of a weekly lesson plan offered in the infant room, where children will interact with the curriculum in six main content areas (Social/Emotional Development, Physical Development & Health, Communication, Language & Literacy, Cognitive Development, Creative Arts and Approaches to Learning).

Personal Items

  • Parents  must provide their children with diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes that are marked with their child's names. There is a $2.00 per diaper charge applied for the use of center diapers.

  • Parents are also welcome to bring preferred pacifiers, blankets, and bottles for their children. Parents are welcome to provide formula or they can use the center provided formula at no additional cost.

NOTE: Bottles filled with breastmilk must have the date and time of preparation on them. Please provide the time of thaw if breastmilk was frozen.

  • Parents who bring breastmilk or formula must bring at least 4-6 oz for babies 0-5 months for every 3 hours of care and 6-8 oz for babies 6-11 months (with 2-4 oz breastmilk or for snack). Breastmilk is always served first and the center will supplement meals with formula if there is not enough breastmilk.

  • We can offer your child solids as early as 6 months. No outside baby food is allowed - the only exception to this rule is breastmilk and formula. If you are ready for staff to serve your child solids, please request an Infant Food List form so that we know what you are comfortable having us feed your child.

Rules|Guidance|Discipline

There are three rules in the Cubs classroom:

  1.  Be kind to our things

  2. Be kind to each other

  3. Be kind to yourself

Caregivers understand that children are learning, and that means working with children in a positive manner to develop meaningful relationships and model appropriate behavior. Children are redirected to activities and choices that they can choose, providing them with a sense of freedom and accountability. Every effort will be made to first resolve discipline problems through discussion and problem solving with the child through direction and both verbal and nonverbal cues.
